Nona
and Gary Davis began Mrs. Sew-n-Sew's Quilt Shop in the early spring
of 2000 in St. Maries, Idaho. Never having owned a quilt shop before,
they worked hard and learned quickly, starting with a couple dozen bolts
of fabric. Originally housed in the Rivercity Mall, Mrs. Sew-n-Sew's
bought a circa 1910 building in the center of town in 2001. After months
of extensive renovation, including exposing the elaborate stamped tin
ceiling, the store was relocated in the spring of 2002. Our current
building has more floor space that accommodates the expanded inventory
of 1500 bolts, and fourteen foot ceilings that allow for display of
large quilts.
All quilters know that fabric, although important,
is only one part of the equation. Inspiration comes from books, patterns
and samples. Mrs. Sew-n-Sew's has those in abundance. Our goal is to
provide not only the popular books and patterns, but also to seek out
and promote new and lesser known designers. both Gary and Nona discovered
that they enjoy designing quilt patterns They have recently assumed
the name, "Another Sew-n-Sew Designs" as their design label.
Nona's patterns tend to feature traditional piecing techniques. Gary
has found a niche with realistic wildlife designs and a humorous look
at hunting adventures. Both kits and patterns are available on this
site under the appropriate links.
Designing
wall quilts has necessitated the search for good ways to hang them.
That search has resulted in Gary inventing the "Chameleon Gripper."
Chameleon Grippers employ the strength of rare earth magnets to hang
fabric art. Sleeves and tacks are not required, no hardware detracts
from your quilted item. Click on the "Chameleon Gripper" link,
and read through the simple step-by-step directions for use.
Learning
is important our whole life through, and it is fun as well. Take a quilt
class and find out. We offer beginning quilt classes as well as classes
for specific projects and techniques.
St. Maries is home to the Valley Piecemakers
Quilt and Craft Club, a gregarious group of women that enjoy quilting,
a hearty laugh and good food. Club highlights and events are included
on our calendar.
